PUC Services Inc. (PUC) operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply, treatment and distribution of municipal drinking water, the supply of electricity, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities.

PUC offers a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. We are seeking a new member to join our Finance department. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, a problem solver and critical thinker with an innate desire to learn and grow.

Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Manager, Technical Accounting will lead activities such as general ledger accounting, financial planning and, analysis and audits.

Responsibilities:
• Compile and review the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, including MD&A.
• Ensure all transactions comply with Ontario Energy Board (OEB) Accounting Procedures, and all applicable accounting standards, while maintaining integrity, accuracy, and consistency in financial transactions.
• Improve and document month-end procedures and workbooks to enhance accuracy of financial reporting.
• Prepare accounting memos to determine appropriate accounting treatments.
• Prepare monthly journal entries, including preparation of monthly estimates and accruals.
• Complete month-end and year-end processing of general ledgers and financial statements, achieving an accurate, consistent and timely closing schedule.
• Develop and monitor business performance metrics.
• Oversee preparation of annual operating budgets.
• Coordinate and manage external audits.
• Manage PILs and Income Tax processes.
• Assist with special and ad hoc projects as required, including acquisitions and new business development.

Qualifications:
• University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with three years of industry or firm experience.
• Hold and maintain a Chartered Professional Accountants designation (CPA).
• Demonstrated recent experience working with up-to-date standards in an audit environment.
• Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
• Well-developed analytical, organizational, technical and communication skills.
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, including advanced skills in spreadsheet and financial accounting software.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Highly self-motivated and directed, and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrates proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
• Obtains, maintains, and retains all required licenses, certificates and documents required of the position.
• Interacts with the public, external agencies and authorities, suppliers, contractors, and staff in a manner that results in positive actions and outcomes.
